Electric Vehicles: The Benefits

Curbing Emissions

Driving an EV helps you reduce your carbon footprint by reducing your exhaust emissions. In fact, EVs cut carbon emissions by 70%, and they will continue to get even cleaner. EVs dramatically lower smog and greenhouse gasses—even factoring in the emissions from production, distribution, and the generation of electricity.

More Incentives to Go Electric

Through additional federal and state incentives, you may be able to save on your EV purchase or lease, or on the installation of an optional home charging station to make driving an EV more affordable. Visit the California Air Resources Board’s DriveClean to find incentives. For convenience, EVs qualify for the white California Clean Air Vehicle decal, which lets you use the carpool lane when driving alone.

Put the Brakes on Fuel Costs

One of the most significant benefits of driving an EV is the costs savings on fuel. On average, EV fuel costs are 50% of the costs of operating a vehicle that runs on gasoline. That’s like paying $1 for a gallon of gas when charging with an EV-friendly rate during Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak hours.

A Trend That’s Here for the Long Haul

In Southern California, plugging in is really taking off. With more than 200,000 EVs, California has the largest concentration of EVs in the nation. That’s almost half of all EVs sold in the U.S. since 2010. Soon, you’ll be able to choose from more models in various classes for both battery electric vehicles and plug-in electric vehicles.
