Annual Reliability Report and Public Meeting
SCE is required to submit an annual Electric System Reliability Report to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
All the annual reports are available on the CPUC website here. See below for the most recent version of our annual report.
(Please note that the 2016 Annual Report will not be available until July 2017.)
The company also conducts an annual public meeting to present high-level information about the Annual Report. Below is the most recent event information regarding the meeting in which we discussed the 2015 Annual Report:
How Reliability is Measured
As your electric utility, we want you to always have power when you need it. To get there, we constantly track and monitor electric outages across our service territory, and we measure our “system reliability” from this data.
The two metrics we rely on are common in the electric utility industry: the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI).
- SAIDI measures the amount of time the average SCE customer experienced a power outage or interruption for more than five minutes (called a “sustained outage”) in a given year. In 2015, our SAIDI was about 100 minutes per customer (with Major Event Days excluded).
- SAIFI is the number of times the average SCE customer experienced a sustained outage in a given year. In 2015, our SAIFI was 0.86 (with Major Event Days excluded), or less than one per customer.
City/County Reliability Reports
The 2016 reliability reports for each city and county in SCE’s service territory are available below.
