Annual Reliability Report and Public Meeting

SCE submits an annual Electric System Reliability Report to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

The company also conducts an annual public meeting to present high-level information about the Annual Report. SCE conducted a public meeting to discuss the 2018 Annual Report on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019 at SCE’s Energy Education Center in Irwindale.

How Reliability is Measured

As your electric utility, we want you to always have power when you need it. To get there, we constantly track and monitor electric outages across our service territory, and we measure our “system reliability” from this data.

The two metrics we rely on are common in the electric utility industry: the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI).

  • SAIDI measures the amount of time the average SCE customer experienced a power outage or interruption for more than five minutes (called a “sustained outage”) in a given year. In 2018, our SAIDI was about 71 minutes per customer (with Major Event Days excluded).
  • SAIFI is the number of times the average SCE customer experienced a sustained outage in a given year. In 2018, our SAIFI was 0.72 (with Major Event Days excluded), or less than one per customer.
