Who is eligible to participate in the CCBB program?

If you reside in a high fire risk area, are currently enrolled in our Medical Baseline Allowance program and require the use of electrically powered medical equipment or another qualifying medical device, you are eligible for the Critical Care Backup Battery program.

If you have been contacted by SCE about this program, you may already be qualified. For more information, call the supplier listed in your notification or contact us at 800-736-4777

How does the CCBB program work?

Our contractor will call you to verify your eligibility, help you choose the appropriate battery size for your current medical devices and schedule a delivery appointment. The backup power can temporarily power devices such as a nebulizer, motorized wheelchair charger, respirator, ventilator or other qualified medical devices. Delivery, setup and training on how to use the battery are all provided at no cost.

What equipment is included as part of the program?

We provide a portable, rechargeable, clean-energy backup battery with a three-year warranty. We also offer a solar panel kit for additional charging capability.

The battery can temporarily power critical medical devices and be charged by plugging it into a regular electrical outlet.

The Critical Care Backup Battery program ("Program") is funded by California utility ratepayers and administered by Southern California Edison, under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission. Additional program restrictions and limitations may apply. Services may not be available in all areas. Services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is expended or the program is discontinued. The Program may be modified or terminated without prior notice. California consumers are not obligated to purchase any full-fee service or other services not funded by this program. This program is available to both homeowners and renters. Renters may be required to obtain the property owner’s written permission before services are provided.
