Why are we performing this project?

SCE is working to further reduce the threat of wildfire by burying power lines in high-risk areas. The targeted undergrounding effort will make the electrical system more reliable during extreme weather conditions by increasing protection from high winds, vegetation, and other hazards that could cause fires or power outages. We understand this work may impact you and we thank you for your understanding. For more information about SCE’s Targeted Undergrounding (TUG) program, visit www.sce.com/tug.

This project page will be updated and maintained through the life cycle of this project to keep you informed. For additional information on this project, you may connect with us at sceprojects@sce.com. Please reference the name of this project in your email.

Project Overview & Timeline

This project to underground electrical assets began 8/11/25, with an anticipated completion date of 10/31/25. This project will underground approximately 1.5 miles of overhead assets along POTRERO RD as part of SCE’s efforts around wildfire mitigation. Once construction begins road closures and/or encroachments may be necessary to complete the work safely and as quickly as possible.

Customers will not experience a power outage until construction is completed and it becomes necessary to in-service new assets. Those customers that may experience a brief in-service power interruption will be notified in advance.

SCE will continue to work with elected officials and community leaders to ensure transparency, a regular cadence of communication and the safe delivery of power to your community.

Public Safety Consideration

Work will be primarily focused for approximately 1.5 miles along POTRERO RD. This work will require heavy equipment and may call for temporary road closures or encroachments. Flaggers will be posted to safely direct traffic through this primary thoroughfare.

Please adhere to temporarily posted traffic regulations and yield to directions from the field crews. Doing so will ensure your and crew safety.

Project Status

  • Project working hours are Monday – Friday 7am to 5pm.
  • Traffic control is in place with flaggers to allow traffic to safely travel through the work area where it is one-lane. Full road closures may be necessary in the coming weeks to complete construction.
  • SCE’s Civil contractor has completed trenching and setting underground structures, and Electrical work has begun.
  • Electrical Construction began on 9/29/25 and is scheduled to be completed by 10/8/25. This project phase is intended to transition power flow from the overhead system onto the newly installed underground system. This transition will require a temporary power outage on 10/06/25. The temporary power outage has been reduced to the smallest footprint possible and those customers have already received notification.
