Understanding Customer vs. Service Accounts
Southern California Edison (SCE) uses two types of accounts to manage your electricity service:
Customer Account
- Linked to your billing and mailing address
- Used for statements, payments, credits, and debits
- Acts as the umbrella for one or more service accounts
Service Account
- Tied to your service address (where your meter is located)
- Tracks energy usage and rate calculations
- Each service account calculates charges separately, then combines into your total bill
You can have:
- One Customer Account with multiple residential service accounts or
- One Customer Account with multiple commercial service accounts
Mixed account types (residential + commercial) require separate customer accounts.
