5 Easy Ways to Help Manage Your Electricity Bill

Manage your monthly electricity costs with simple programs and resources designed to make saving easier for you. We’re here to help when you need it most.

  1. See if you qualify for a monthly discount
With newly expanded eligibility guidelines, you may now qualify for savings
    on your monthly bill.

    • California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) – Apply to get 32.5% off your electricity bills.
    • Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) – Apply to get an 18% discount on your electricity bills.

Applying only takes a few minutes – one simple application checks your eligibility for both programs.

  2. Get support with bill assistance programs
    • Arrearage Management Plan – If you’re behind on your electricity bill, see if you qualify for this payment option designed to help customers catch up on their past‐due bills.
    • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program – Find out if you’re eligible for a one-time payment that can help pay your heating or cooling bills.
    • Energy Assistance Fund – Through our partnership with United Way, we offer financial relief to customers struggling to pay their electricity bill. You may qualify to receive a payment of up to $200 ($300 for an all-electric house) to apply toward your electricity bill.
  3. Make sure you’re on the right rate plan
    • Rate Plan Comparison Tool – Not all rate plans are alike. Use this tool to compare your current rate plan with other options.
      - Find out if you can save on other rate plans
      - Get estimates based on your past usage
      - Choose and switch plans today
  4. Use our budget management resources
    • Budget Assistant Tool – Access powerful budget-management tools that help you track projected monthly bill amounts, receive high-bill alerts, and get spending goal updates.¹ Sign up easily through My Account.
    • Budget Billing Plan – A 12-month program to help eligible customers divide the cost of their annual electricity service into equal monthly payments throughout the year. See if you qualify.
  5. Get rewarded with summer bill credits
    • Smart Energy Program – Enroll your qualifying smart thermostat and earn a one-time $75 sign-up credit and up to $50 in annual bill credits when you stay enrolled from June 1 through September 30.
    • Summer Discount Plan – Earn up to $160 in bill credits when you enroll and we install a free remote-controlled device on or near your central air conditioning unit.

During Summer Discount Plan events, the device will automatically cycle or turn off your unit based on your program preferences. With flexible options, you choose the plan that works best for you.

1Certain account types are ineligible to use the Budget Assistant Tool: Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), Direct Access (DA), Net Energy Metering (NEM), Billing Payment Plan (BPP), Edison SmartConnect (ESC) Meter Opt-Out, and Street Lights.
