What Is LIHEAP?
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps qualifying households pay energy bills and improve home energy efficiency. The program may provide bill payment assistance, emergency assistance and weatherization services.

What Help Does LIHEAP Provide?
As of August 2026, LIHEAP may offer:
- Help paying energy bills through the Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides one-time financial assistance for eligible households.
- Emergency assistance through the Energy Crisis Intervention Program, for eligible households facing an energy-related crisis, such as a disconnection notice or service termination, or a situation that could affect the health or safety of household members, such as a combustible appliance.
- Free energy-efficiency improvements through LIHEAP Weatherization, which can help lower monthly energy bills while also improving comfort, health and safety in the home.
- Education about saving energy and guidance on the proper use and maintenance of weatherization improvements.
- Energy budget counseling to help households manage energy costs.

LIHEAP may provide up to $1,500 to help eligible customers pay their SCE bill. If approved, SCE receives a LIHEAP payment on the customer’s behalf and automatically applies the payment to their account.
