Post-Enrollment Verification
To qualify for our California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) or Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) programs, you must meet the current income guidelines or have someone residing in your household who participates in a qualifying public assistance program.
We do not require you to submit proof of eligibility when you apply to CARE/FERA; however, after enrollment, you may be required to participate in the CARE/FERA verification process at any time during your enrollment.
How to Prove Eligibility
To continue receiving your CARE/FERA program discount, you need to provide specific documentation within 90 days from the date indicated on the letter or email you received. You may prove eligibility based on income OR participation in a qualifying public assistance program.

How to Complete Verification
The fastest way to verify your eligibility for either the CARE/FERA program is by submitting your Eligibility Verification Form online. You may expect to receive a response within 24-48 hours.
Complete Online
You may complete the Eligibility Verification Form and upload all supporting Proof of Income or Public Assistance Program documentation* on the SCE website.
You may also download and submit the completed form and supporting Proof of Income or Public Assistance Program documentation* via U.S. mail . Expect a response time of approximately three weeks to one month.
Note: If submitting by U.S. mail, please allow sufficient transit time for your application to arrive before the verification due date.

Providing Verification
While we don't require you to submit proof of eligibility when you initially apply, at any time during your enrollment you may be selected to participate in the CARE/FERA verification process. This is to ensure that those benefiting from the CARE/FERA discount meet program eligibility criteria.
Your CARE/FERA discount will remain active until the due date specified on your CARE/FERA verification letter or email. If we determine that you are ineligible, your discount will be suspended. Your discount may also be suspended if you submit incomplete verification documents, ask us to cancel your enrollment, or if we receive your documents after the due date.
Please allow approximately 30 days for your paperwork to be processed once documents are received.
