Per current CPUC-approved tariff rules, customers are responsible for the cost of undergrounding service lines, which connect utility facilities to property owners’ electrical panels. These civil construction costs are typically paid to a private, licensed contractor hired by the homeowner to perform the civil work required to install an underground service line on the homeowner’s property. SCE is seeking alternative ways to help reduce this expense for these homeowners.
At this point, there is an option for standing homes to remain with overhead service line connections with covered conductor.
