Closing or Transferring an Account After a Loss
We understand that losing a loved one is difficult. If you need to update or close a SCE account due to the death of the account holder, we’re here to guide you through the process.
What You’ll Need
Before contacting us, please gather the following documents and upload to our online portal:
- Death Certificate or Trust Documents
- Valid identification (driver’s license, state ID, or Social Security number)

Options Available
Depending on your situation, you may choose one of the following:
- Transfer Service to a New Account Holder
- If the property will continue to be occupied, the surviving spouse, executor, or new resident can submit a Move-In request.
- This creates a new account in their name while keeping the electricity service active.
- Close the Account
- If the property will no longer be occupied, you may request a service termination.
- Final charges will be billed to the deceased’s account and may be handled through the estate.
How to Contact SCE
Once all necessary documents have been submitted to the online portal, please call SCE Customer Support at 1-800-655-4555.
