Closing or Transferring an Account After a Loss
We understand that losing a loved one is difficult. If you need to update or close a SCE account due to the death of the account holder, we’re here to guide you through the process.
What You’ll Need
Please gather the following documents and upload to our online portal:
- Death Certificate or Trust Documents
- Valid identification (driver’s license, state ID, or Social Security number)

Options Available
- Transfer Service to a New Account Holder
- If the property continues to be occupied, the surviving spouse, executor, or new resident can submit a Move-In request.
- This creates a new account in their name while keeping the electricity service active.
- Close the Account
- If the property is no longer occupied, you may submit a Move-out Request on sce.com using your My Account login, provided you are an authorized account holder.
- If there is an OTA (Owner Tenant Agreement) on file to keep services active for a rental property, please also submit the document to cancel the agreement.
- Final charges will be billed to the deceased’s account and may be handled through the estate.
- Submit Documents Only
- Once documents are uploaded to the online portal and verified, we will mail a letter to the service address to advise a new move in is required.
- If no move-in is requested within five (5) days of the letter, service will be automatically disconnected.
- Final charges will be billed to the deceased’s account and may be handled through the estate.
