Why are we performing this project?

SCE is working to further reduce the threat of wildfire by burying power lines in high-risk areas. The targeted undergrounding effort will make the electrical system more reliable during extreme weather conditions by increasing protection from high winds, vegetation, and other hazards that could cause fires or power outages. We understand that this work will temporarily impact you, and we will do everything we can to minimize any inconvenience by reducing outage footprints and durations whenever possible.

Please ensure that you keep your outage contact information up to date. You may elect to receive outage notifications via email, voicemail and/or Text (Sign Up for Outage Alerts).

This project page will be updated and maintained through the life cycle of this project to keep you informed. For more information about SCE’s Targeted Undergrounding (TUG) program, visit www.sce.com/tug.

The undergrounding effort will begin by approximately the middle/end of 2nd quarter 2026 through the 3rd quarter of 2026. Construction hours will vary based on permit and traffic control conditions. Please note that weather conditions and unforeseen operational factors may impact construction hours and timelines.

Overhead and underground electrical construction will be focused both in the Ventura County and the city of Thousand Oaks. Locations for this construction will be starting just east along Potrero Rd at the intersection of S. Wendy Dr and Potrero Rd, for approximately 3.59 miles (18,955’) of Targeted Underground (TUG). Some construction activities may impact the surrounding areas as temporary road closures may be necessary to perform the work safely.

Those customers directly impacted by a construction phase will receive a formal notification from SCE via their communication mode of choice (email, voice message or text). To receive timely advance notice of outage impacts, please ensure that we have your updated contact information (Sign Up for Outage Alerts)

Vegetation Management

Every year SCE inspects approximately 1.6 million trees with the intent to identify conditions that may pose hazard to our communities. SCE trims trees near power lines as a free service to customers to keep the public safe. During trimming, we create a minimum 12-foot clearance from primary power lines.
