More Solar Power For Southern California

We’re committed to California’s renewable-power goals, and the Sandlot Substation Project near Harper Lake, in San Bernardino County, is designed to help. This project, formerly called the Water Valley Substation Project, will help us connect the Abengoa Mojave Solar Project to our electricity grid.

San Bernardino County:  Barstow, Adelanto, Victorville

The Sandlot Substation (formerly Water Valley) Substation Project consists primarily of:

  • Sandlot Substation: a new 220 kV substation occupying approximately 10 acres of land on the Abengoa Mojave Solar Project site.
  • Transmission Lines: Two parallel transmission line segments to connect the substation to the existing Coolwater-Kramer No. 1 220 kV transmission line.
  • Telecommunications: New facilities to connect the project to our existing telecommunications system, including 85 miles of new fiber optic communication cables on existing transmission line poles and on seven replacement poles, constructing new interest poles, placing segments of cable in existing underground conduit, and placing cable in new underground conduit.

Construction on the project is complete.
