To meet the growing electrical needs of our customers in portions of the communities of Apple Valley, Victorville and surrounding areas of unincorporated San Bernardino County, SCE is planning a proposed project, the Timepiece 115/33 kV Substation Project (Proposed Project).  The Proposed Project will enable SCE to provide the necessary capacity to meet the electrical needs of customers and maintain safe and reliable service.

The Proposed Project’s Scope of work:

  • Construct a new 115/33 kV compact substation on an existing SCE fee-owned parcel
  • Construct two new 115 kV subtransmission lines from the existing substation to the new compact substation.
    • To the extent where it is feasible, the new source lines will follow the path of SCE’s existing right of way.

SCE is currently conducting environmental surveys. As a result, you may see SCE crews and/or contractors conducting this work. SCE anticipates filing a project application with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) late-2026. If approved by the CPUC, the Timepiece Substation Project is estimated to be operational by the second quarter of 2030.

We understand that our infrastructure projects may affect the neighboring communities. We believe in open and ongoing communication with the communities we serve. SCE will continue ongoing communication throughout the project-planning phase and through construction. We value your feedback, perspective and input.

Potential Project Activities and Impacts

Prior to construction, crews will be in the area performing field assessments and/or surveys, as required. Once the Proposed Project is approved by the CPUC, SCE will seek the necessary permits from city, county, state and/or federal agencies as required or Caltrans. SCE will work closely with the necessary agencies and/or property owners.
