Guide to Your Solar Bill

How to Read and Understand Your Solar Billing Plan Statements

Welcome to the Solar Billing Plan (SBP)! Now that you’re interconnected, you’ll see some changes to your bill. Use this guide to learn how to read your statements and ways you can use the information on your bill to make the most of your new solar-generating system.

Why Do I Still Get a Monthly Bill?

Even though you’re now generating your own solar energy, you still receive a bill each month for your energy charges. These are charges you owe for the energy you consume from SCE after we apply any credit for surplus energy your system generates.

What’s on Your Monthly Bill?

Your bill contains everything you need to know about your energy use for the month. It’s a good idea to get familiar with what’s on there and where to find it. You may run across a few unfamiliar terms, so we encourage you to view our glossary on How to Speak Solar.

What You Owe at a Glance

Want to just see what you owe at a glance? Your balance and due date are clearly displayed at the top of the first page of your bill.

Time-of-Use-(TOU) Information

See an easy-to-read overview of your on- and off-peak energy consumption alongside energy costs. This chart displays the energy you consume only, not the energy your solar system produces.

Your Usage History

A month-over-month chart showing your average daily usage. Small changes in how – and especially when – you use energy can make a difference. For example: Running appliances like laundry machines when your solar system is active (when the sun is out) means you’ll rely even less on SCE for power after dark.

Pro Tip: Log into My Account to see an even more detailed breakdown of your daily usage and history.

Details of Your Charges and Credits

This section shows your energy use and costs in detail, broken out by delivery charges, generation charges, set fees and any other charges or credits. It also includes a section on Solar Billing Plan that shows your Energy Export Credits (EEC) for surplus energy you produce.

Charges

The energy you use from SCE to keep the power on when your solar system can’t produce enough energy (such as at night) will be charged according to your rate plan.

Credits

SBP customers who generate surplus energy that is exported to SCE are compensated in the form of Energy Export Credits (EECs). These EECs will then be applied to help offset eligible bill charges. Residential customers that enroll prior to 2028 are also eligible to receive an additional Energy Export Bonus Credit.
