SCE Rate Advisory
SCE Rate Advisory
Our Rates are Decreasing on October 1, 2024
Throughout the year, we submit requests to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to change our rates. These requests must be approved by the CPUC. Changes to our rates may cause your monthly electricity bill to increase or decrease.
Current Average Residential Rate: 33.2 cents per kWh
New Average Residential Rate: 32.5 cents per kWh
The table below shows an estimate of how your residential SCE bill may be affected by our October 1, 2024, rate decrease:
Average Residential Customer Monthly Bill Impacts
The October 1, 2024, rate decrease is the net result of both increases and decreases to various items collected in electric rates:
- The rate decrease is primarily the result of an adjustment to generation rates for bundled service customers, and it is associated with lower natural gas and power prices relative to the forecasts used to set current rates. In total, we are decreasing $750 million from bundled generation rates. The CPUC approved the rate decrease in a decision issued in August of 2024 (Decision 24-08-015).
- We are implementing $288 million of costs through rates, to recover costs associated with winter storms, heatwaves, and fire events that occurred during 2019 and 2020. These costs were incurred for the repair, replacement, or restoration of damaged facilities, and to restore service to customers affected by these events. The CPUC approved these cost recoveries in a decision issued in May of 2024 (Decision 24-05-037).
- We are implementing $278 million of costs through rates, to recover costs incurred between 2019 and 2023 associated with reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfires in our service area by enhancing vegetation management, mitigating the impacts of Power Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), replacing bare overhead conductor in High Fire Risk Areas (HFRAs) with overhead conductor covered by an insulating material that is highly effective in reducing major drivers of wildfire risk, and completing other important wildfire mitigation work.
