Electric Vehicles: The Benefits

An Environmental Shift

Plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs)—whether pure battery electrics (BEVs) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)—are becoming an increasingly popular choice for drivers looking to avoid the gas station while helping clean up the air we breathe. Here’s a look at the benefits these vehicles provide for you and our planet.

Be the Drivers of Change

Electric vehicles travelling on electricity produce less tailpipe emissions per mile than conventional vehicles, even considering power-plant emissions. These vehicles contribute to a cleaner, greener commute and diminish your personal carbon footprint. Even when hybrid vehicles are using their gasoline engines, they are among the cleanest passenger vehicles on the road. In general, plug-in electric vehicles are more efficient and require less energy to run than gas-powered vehicles.

Support Energy Independence

Most of the resources used to power our grid are found close to home, and approximately 20% of the power we deliver to our customers is generated from renewable energy sources like wind and solar. When you fuel your vehicle, you are buying 100% North American made energy instead of the imported oil that powers most conventional vehicles today.

Enjoy the Savings

Electric vehicles lower your fuel costs compared to gasoline. On average, electricity costs 25% to 50% the cost of a gasoline gallon equivalent. You may save more by choosing an Electric Vehicle Rate Plan that gives you lower rates for charging at night, when the costs of electricity are lower.

See the Incentives

You may also be able to take advantage of federal and state incentives to purchase or lease a vehicle or to install a charging station at your home. And, many electric vehicles qualify for the new California HOV lane sticker, which allows you to use the carpool lane even if you're driving alone. An added benefit: You'll be fueling at home without the need to visit a gas station!
