A continuación encontrarás una útil lista de cosas que puedes hacer para reducir el consumo de energía en tu negocio, especialmente durante los periodos pico de Time-Of-Use (TOU) que van del mediodía a las 6:00 p. m. en los días hábiles, cuando la demanda alcanza su nivel más alto.

 

Lighting and Controls
  • Replace incandescent or halogen lamps with cooler LED lamps for offices, displays, exit signs, pools, and exterior area lighting
  • Install inexpensive occupancy sensors in general usage areas to automatically turn off lights when the area is not in use
  • Install dimmable ballasts to lower energy use in fluorescent lamps
  • Install sensory controllers on vending machines
  • Upgrade to new-generation, low-wattage T8 lamps and fixtures
  • Switch fluorescent fixtures in refrigerated display cases with LED, found to be more appealing to customers as well
  • Replace fluorescent fixtures in menu boards or backlit signage with LED lamps
  • Limit outdoor lighting system usage to the hours between dusk and dawn by installing photocells or time clocks
  • Take advantage of day lighting options and reduce lighting levels
Refrigeration
  • Install strip curtains, wing doors, and/or auto door closers on walk-ins and freezers
  • Make sure your bare suction lines are insulated
  • Affix night covers to open display cases when closing for the day
  • Add temperature controllers and anti-sweat heater controls
  • Switch to automatic sensor ice machines to turn off during On-Peak hours or larger ones that make ice during Off-Peak hours
  • Replace worn seals and gaskets on refrigerator and freezer doors, install automatic door closers
  • Install variable-speed control for condenser fan(s)
Motors and Compressors
  • Practice preventative maintenance on all of your motor systems
  • Install variable-frequency drives (VDFs) to control motor speeds
  • Install small air compressors for low-use periods
  • Install sequencing controls on multiple-unit compressor systems
  • Upgrade to high-efficiency motors
  • Install automatic shut-off devices to reduce usage during peak demand times
Temperature Control
  • Install timers or program thermostats to power down after closing for the day
  • Sign up for HVAC maintenance to perform routine maintenance on heating and A/C filters, belts, coils, and bearings
  • Switch to LED bulbs and decrease the amount of office heat and A/C energy use
  • Pre-cool work areas at night or in the morning and consider raising your thermostat by four degrees during peak hours of noon to 6 p.m. weekdays to help reduce your energy usage while still keeping cool
  • Consider installing window film to keep out summer heat
  • Add interior or exterior blinds to block heat in the summer and provide more daylight in the winter
Weatherization
  • Increase insulation in walls and ceilings wherever possible
  • Inspect weather stripping for deterioration or gaps around all doors and windows
Pumps
  • Take advantage of SCE Free Pump Testing to identify inefficient pumps, and replace or overhaul any that are operating inefficiently
  • Make sure your bare suction lines are insulated
  • Upgrade to high-efficiency pumps
  • Perform routine checks to ensure water lines are leak-free, minimizing unnecessary operation time for pumps
  • Instead of valving down, try installing variable-frequency drives on pumps to control flow and optimize pressure
Office Equipment/Computers
  • Install plug load occupancy sensors to turn off equipment when the workplace is unoccupied
  • Upgrade to high-efficiency EnergyStar® office equipment, including laptops, which use less than a third of the energy of a desktop
  • Install PC network software to automatically control the power settings on all networked computers
