Delivering Clean, Hydroelectric Power to the Southern San Joaquin Valley

As one of the fastest-growing regions in California, Tulare County needs greater capacity for power transmission. This transmission project is designed to deliver cleaner, hydroelectric power from our Big Creek facilities to areas in the Southern San Joaquin Valley where demand on the rise.

Tulare, Visalia, Hanford, Exeter, Farmersville, Woodlake, and surrounding areas of Tulare and Kings counties

The San Joaquin Cross Valley Loop project will upgrade existing transmission lines to meet increased demand for electricity in the southern San Joaquin Valley.

Project is complete. The San Joaquin Cross Valley Loop Project was energized in November 2014. Restoration activities and biological surveys are currently being conducted.

  • July, 2010: Project approved by CPUC
  • 2010 to 2012: Environmental and land surveys for final engineering of project
  • March, 2012: Construction of laydown yards
  • July, 2012 : Start of site preparation in existing north-south transmission corridor
  • August, 2012:Start demolition of existing towers and rebuild as double circuit 220 kV line
  • Ongoing demolition of existing structures and installation of new structures in the existing (North-South) transmission corridor.
  • 2nd Quarter 2013: anticipate installation of new structures in the new (East-West) transmission corridor
