Whether you’re a property owner, property manager, or a builder, you probably want to create a comfortable living environment for your residents. These days, many current and potential residents may want to drive EVs. Offering charging stations may improve resident satisfaction. In addition, upgrading your parking spaces can help reach sustainability goals and lower smog and greenhouse gasses. Plus, you can obtain important green building certification, such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), to showcase your commitment to sustainability.
An important step in understanding how charging works is to get familiar with the different types of EVs available. Take a moment to learn more, so you can provide a parking experience that can keep residents satisfied.
A Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has both an electric motor connected to a battery and an internal combustion engine. To charge its battery, residents can plug it into a standard electrical outlet or a charging station. PHEVs use the energy stored in the battery to run, but they can travel many more miles on gas, with a much higher fuel efficiency than most conventional vehicles.
A Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) is 100% powered by electricity. With no reliance on gasoline, BEVs emit no pollutants, and drivers never need to pull into a gas station. BEVs typically have a driving range between 80 and 250 miles, which makes them ideal for short trips and most daily commutes.
Condominium residents face unique obstacles when planning to install electric vehicle charging stations. In this case study, Silver Spur Court Condominium residents worked together to develop creative solutions and leverage SCE’s Charge Ready program. Ultimately, the condo residents and SCE collaborated to provide EV charging to the entire property.
We currently offer several services to help you adopt and make the most of transportation electrification. We provide comprehensive resources for the information and support your business needs throughout its transition to EVs—and down the road.
There are three charging levels—or voltages—you can provide for residents who drive EVs. The higher the voltage, the faster the charge—but higher voltage levels often require a greater investment in equipment and wiring upgrades.
