About the Leasing Program
Increased use of renewable energy sources is a strategic goal for Southern California Edison and for many Californians. To continue its tradition of leading the way in electricity, Southern California Edison has created the Solar Rooftop Program, an innovative new solar program.
Traditionally, utility companies, Federal, and State governments have provided tax credits and other incentives for homeowners and companies to install solar facilities to serve their on-site electrical demand. The Solar Rooftop Program is revolutionary in that SCE, rather than the Property Owner, builds and owns the solar facility, and the electricity flows directly into the electrical grid rather than used to meet the on-site demand of the building.
SCE is installing up to 250 megawatts of photovoltaic power on the rooftops of approximately 100 to 150 large industrial buildings over a five-year period. In the Solar Rooftop Program, SCE will lease building roofs, install, operate and maintain solar systems over the life of the lease, and will remove the units at lease expiration.
Property Owners will receive unplanned rent on their buildings with little risk, as the projects are backed by the credit of Southern California Edison, a one hundred year old company. The Solar Rooftop Program is the first program of its type in the United States.
