Getting Started With Solar Thermal
The program administrators, in association with industry stakeholders, are in the process of developing the CSI Thermal Program Handbook and application procedures.
SCE will begin accepting applications for single-family residential customers on May 1, 2010, and for multifamily and commercial customers on June 1, 2010. The CSI Thermal Program will run for up to eight years, ending on December 31, 2017, or until the program funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.

CSI Thermal Program Eligibility
To be eligible for incentive rebates under the CSI Thermal Program, SWH systems must satisfy the following criteria:
- Energy output or displacement standards: Residential SWH systems must have Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) OG-300 SWH System Certification. Solar collectors used in multi-family residential, commercial, or industrial water heating must have SRCC OG-100 SWH System Certification.
- Components must be new and unused.
- SWH collectors must have a warranty of not less than 10 years.
- Gas SWH systems must be in buildings connected to a natural gas utility’s distribution system.
- SWH systems must have meters or other kilowatt thermal (kWth) measuring devices to monitor and measure system performance and the quantity of energy generated or displaced by the system. Meters are required for all systems displacing more than 30 kWth.
- Systems must be installed in conformity with manufacturers’ specifications and all applicable codes and standards.
Applying for the Program
In order to participate in the program, contractors and self-installers must attend a one day mandatory training. Sign up for training now.
If the contractor (specifically the contractor license holder) or self-installer already completed the mandatory training, you can register and submit applications as of May 1 by going to the statewide application database located at www.csithermal.com.
