Save Energy, Money and the Environment

Southern California Edison wants to help you
save energy, money and the environment.

If you’re looking to buy a new TV, computer, monitor or other consumer electronics, look for the ENERGY STAR® label.

Why ENERGY STAR? Because the most innovative feature is the one you can’t even see.

ENERGY STAR rated consumer electronics are innovative, efficient and affordable.

TVs that carry the U.S. Department of Energy’s ENERGY STAR label use up to 30 percent less energy than non-ENERGY STAR TVs and perform just as well.

You save energy, money and the environment while getting the performance and innovation you want from your electronic devices.

Not in the market for new electronics – you can still save!

Even if you aren’t shopping for a new TV or computer, there are simple, quick and FREE steps you can take to help save energy, money and the environment.

Did you know that the wasted stand-by power of all household electronic devices accounts for 5% of energy use?

These devices – known as Energy Vampires continue to draw electricity even when they’re switched off or in standby mode.

So slay those vampires and start saving money today!

What are Energy Vampires and How Can I Slay Them?

Energy Vampires are any electronic devices that consume power even when they are switched off or in standby mode.

Even though each individual vampire may not consume a lot of energy, when you add up all the vampires lurking in your house they take quite a bite out of your energy budget.

You can drive a stake through the heart of these vampires by unplugging them when not in use or plugging them into a power strip and turning the strip off when the appliance are not in use.

Some of those energy vampires that can consume standby power include:

  • TVs and Set-top boxes
  • Computers, digital monitors and printers
  • VCRs, DVD players and some audio systems
  • Air conditioning systems with remote control
  • Devices with a stand-by light or clock
  • Power adapters whether they are powering a device or not
  • Some home video game consoles
