Save money on your summer season electric bills and help conserve energy by joining Southern California Edison's (SCE) Residential Summer Discount Plan (formerly ACCP). At no charge to you, SCE provides and installs a cycling device on your central air conditioner(s). In exchange, you receive a credit on your summer season electric bills for permitting SCE to periodically turn off, or "cycle," your air conditioner(s). You decide how much credit you receive by the program and the amount of cycling you select. The maximum credit amount can vary depending on the size of your central air conditioner unit(s) and the amount of your electrical usage. Here, you will find more details about the credits.
How it Works
The Summer Discount Plan operates only during the summer season (June 1st and ending the October 1st). The cycling device is a small unit attached to the outside of your air conditioner(s). Activated by a remote radio signal, it allows SCE to temporarily turn off, or "cycle," your air conditioner(s), when needed.
Air conditioner cycling may occur when:
- SCE is informed by the California Independent System Operator (Cal ISO), the statewide electrical transmission authority, when electricity reserves have dropped below 5% (referred to as a Stage 2 emergency).
- Emergency situations declare a Storm Alert exists and we need to avoid a more widespread power outage.
- SCE needs to test your control device. Air conditioner testing interruptions will last up to a maximum of 15 minutes, will be conducted only during peak hours, and will occur only once per summer season.
SCE offers two residential Summer Discount Plans with your choice of three different cycling options within each program. To learn more about the programs and the cycling options, please read the Summer Discount Plan Details.
SCE also offers a similar Summer Discount Plan for Commercial customers.
