When you participate in Summer Discount Plan, your A/C may be remotely shut off for a limited period of time during energy events, in response to circumstances such as:

  • Emergencies: At the discretion of the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) for emergency purposes.
  • Grid Control: SCE’s Grid Control determines there is a need for load reduction in our service territory.
  • High wholesale energy prices: At the discretion of SCE’s energy operations in response to high wholesale energy prices.
  • Testing: We may conduct up to two tests per service account, per calendar year, for a maximum of 30 minutes each.

Any of these circumstances or events may happen at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, any day of the year, including holidays. There is a 6-hour limit to energy events. In the event of a system emergency, we may, at our discretion, extend the cycling period beyond the 6-hour duration limit. However, no new energy event will be initiated after the 6-hour limit has been met.
