Smart Metering Project of the Year

February 2011 -- PowerGrid International magazine named the Edison SmartConnect project “Smart Metering Project of the Year” for 2010. Entries were received from some of the best-known utilities in the U.S. and worldwide. Judging criteria included ingenuity, scope, practicality, vision and execution.


Buildy Awards

June 2010 -- The Edison SmartConnect project received a “Buildy” award. Given at the annual ConnectivityWeek conference and exposition, Buildy awards recognize leadership in smart grid, smart buildings, smart homes, smart devices and smart services. Our “Carl and Eddy” educational video series about smart meters played a large role in securing the win. Learn more about Buildy Awards.


Project Management Institute

May 2008 -- The Edison SmartConnect project received the 2007 Project of the Year Award from the Orange County Chapter of Project Management Institute (OC-PMI), for the second consecutive year. The Project of the Year Award recognizes superior performance and execution of exemplary project management. Edison SmartConnect's submission focused on the project's pre-deployment period (Phase II), the second step in SCE's three-phased deployment strategy. The project team completed Phase II within scope, on schedule, and approximately $7 million under budget.


Utility Planning Network

August 2007 -- The Utility Planning Network (UPN), a membership-based peer group of utility professionals worldwide that facilitates the annual Metering Awards Program, recognized SCE's Edison SmartConnect™ Program Phase II for the Best Metering Data Integration Initiative.

August 2006 -- The UPN recognized SCE's Edison SmartConnect™ Program Phase I as the 2005/2006 Best AMR initiative in a North American Investor-Owned Utility.


Each year electric, gas and water companies worldwide participate in this international competition. Former winners include PPL, Consolidated Edison, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council (Africa), Guernsey Electric (UK) and Anaheim Public Utilities.


U.S. Dept. of Energy

April 2007 -- The U.S. Department of Energy's GridWeek conference in Washington, D.C. - the DOE's first national conference on the technologies and policies needed to modernize the U.S. power grid - named six individuals and organizations innovation leaders helping the country develop the smart grid of the future. SCE was one of the six, and the only utility named. Our advanced meter program received the DOE's 2007 award for Smart Grid Implementation & Deployment Leadership.


Electric Power Research Institute

2006 -- The Electric Power Research Institute recognized SCE as the 2006 Power Delivery & Markets Product Champion for its leadership role in the implementation of the IntelliGrid® Architecture methodology and recommendation for SCE's Advanced Metering Infrastructure project.
