Net Energy Metering Cap Data
The NEM program uses a bi-directional meter to track the “net” difference between the amount of electricity the customer produces and the amount of electricity consumed during each billing period. After 12 billing periods, the total amounts are reconciled and, if the customer is a net consumer of energy, the resulting excess energy consumed is billed. On the other hand, if the customer is a net producer of energy, the resulting excess energy produced is used to calculate generation energy credits.
Legislation that went into effect Jan. 1, 2011, increased the cap on the total generating capacity of net metered systems in SCE’s service territory to 5 percent of SCE’s peak load requirements.
The table below shows the latest number of NEM customers in SCE’s service territory and the combined capacity of their generating systems. These amounts are only estimates and do not replace SCE’s CPUC-reporting requirements.
| Date | Number of NEM Installations | NEM Installations CEC-AC Rating (MW) | Estimated Percent of Allowable NEM Peak |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11/21/2011 | 25,228 | 290,805 | 1.26% |
