Energy Efficiency Partnerships

SCE's partnership program provides support to local governments and institutions to assist them in achieving a joint vision of sustainability. SCE works closely with partners to address key issues that are barriers to achieving this vision and develop a long term energy efficiency strategy.

Local Governments

Through the Energy Leader Partnership Program, SCE provides support to local governments to identify and address energy efficiency opportunities in municipal facilities, take actions supporting the California Long Term Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan and increase community awareness and participation in demand side management opportunities. A key goal in SCE's local government partnerships is helping cities and counties lead by example in addressing energy efficiency first in their own municipal facilities. In addition, the program strives to expand the policies and the energy management capacity at local governments to maintain a long term sustainability focus. SCE currently has over 100 cities and counties participating in the local government partnership program.

Institutional

Through the Institutional Partnership program, SCE helps large institutions achieve aggressive demand side management goals institution-wide. The program does so by influencing key decision-making by senior leaders within the institution, whenever possible, in order to create a long term environment that supports this vision. These institutions frequently face significant barriers to energy efficiency including financial, technical and resource issues. By understanding and addressing the hurdles each partner faces, the program is able to effect long term change in sustainability policies, planning and execution. Included in this portfolio are institutions such as the University of California, California State Universities, the California Community Colleges, the State of CA, and the Department of Corrections.

The Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative

The Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative (SEEC) is a new alliance to help cities and counties reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy.

SEEC provides education and tools for climate action planning, venues for peer-to-peer networking, technical assistance and recognition for local agencies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy use.

SEEC is a collaboration between California’s four Investor Owned Utilities and three statewide non-profit organizations:

  • ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability
    • ICLEI - Local governments for Sustainability is a nation-wide local government membership association focused on climate protection and sustainability. ICLEI conducts workshops and training for local governments on key steps they can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. ICLEI also develops and delivers a suite of resources to aid local governments in implementing measures that increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The Institute for Local Government
    • ILG is the research and education affiliate of the California State Association of Counties and the League of California Cities. ILG’s California Climate Action Network provides the Beacon Award to recognize and celebrate cities and counties for saving energy, conserving resources, promoting sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The Local Government Commission
    • LGC offers inspiration and networking opportunities to local elected officials and other dedicated community leaders who are working to create healthy, resource-efficient communities. LGC holds webinars on energy efficiency strategies, annual statewide conferences on greenhouse gas reduction and energy efficiency best practices, and provides peer to peer networking opportunities.

The collaborative effort of SEEC is designed to build upon the unique resources, expertise and local agency relationships of each of the four investor owned utilities as well as the 3 non-profit organizations.
