Instrumentation Lending Program

Let SCE loan you the tools to analyze your energy usage

Any business can reduce its energy consumption — and operating costs — by changing the way it uses electricity.

Monitoring equipment analyzes the conditions affecting your company's energy usage, including climate control, equipment efficiency, and room occupancy patterns. With this information at your disposal, you can reduce your overhead and maximize your profits.

So why don't more businesses monitor their systems?

Monitoring equipment can be cost prohibitive, especially if you're only planning to use it for a short time.

Now, with Southern California Edison's Instrumentation Lending Program, you can borrow state-of-the-art monitoring equipment inexpensively for up to 30 days.

The handheld tools and mountable "logging" devices available include:

  • Temperature Logger. This data logger records up to 32,000 readings at intervals ranging from 8 seconds to 30 minutes. It can be used to investigate comfort complaints, settle disputes, troubleshoot energy management controls, balance HVAC systems, and monitor the storage of temperature-sensitive goods.
  • Balometer (Air Flow) Meter. This device instantaneously measures the air flow from ceiling vents. It can be used to verify and balance air flow rates and settle comfort disputes.
  • Lighting Logger. This logger measures light usage with a built-in photocell and easily attaches to light fixtures using a magnetic strip. It can store up to 8,192 readings to help you determine usage patterns.
  • Current Logger. This device clips over a wire to detect the current used by any electrical device with more than a 1/4-amp draw. It can store up to 8,192 readings to help you monitor usage patterns.
  • Motor Logger. This logging unit detects the magnetic fields generated by motors and other electrical devices. It attaches near or on an electrical motor and records up to 8,192 readings.
  • Occupancy Sensor. This device monitors the occupancy of a room. It records up to 8,192 "motion events" to help you determine power-wasting patterns (e.g., when lights are on in an empty room).
  • Portable Multi-Purpose Data Logger. This convenient device — small enough to function as a handheld tool — can measure 4 separate data groups at one time. Options include temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, tachometer, light intensity, occupancy, voltage, and current. It can handle up to 70,000 readings, works in both cold and hot ambient zones, and has a number of attachments for added versatility.
