Agricultural & Pumping Interruptible (AP-I) Program
With SCE's Agricultural and Pumping Interruptible Program (AP-I), you can receive a year-round monthly credit when you elect to temporarily interrupt electric service to your total load served. AP-I is offered on a contractual basis.
How The Program Works
Upon notification to SCE from the CAISO of the need to implement load reductions in SCE’s service territory, SCE will then transmit a signal to the load control device installed on the customer’s pumping equipment, which will automatically turn off the customer’s total load served for the entire duration of the interruption event. Manual reset of the main circuit breaker/pump controller is required after an interruption event.
What You'll Receive
The AP-I program provides two types of credits based on the customer's rate schedule:
- For customers on Rate Schedule PA-1 or PA-2, the AP-I program provides a $0.01164 per kWh credit applied against the customer’s bill.
- For customers on TOU rate schedules (for example, TOU-PA-B), the total credited amount will vary according to their average demand (kW) during time-of-use (TOU) periods.
AP-I TOU Credit
The AP-I TOU credit shall apply to applicable TOU rate schedules.

Who Can Participate
The AP-I Program is open to all business customers who meet the following conditions:
- Provide a suitable and accessible location for equipment installation, maintenance and repair during reasonable business hours.
- Have a demand > 37 kW and/or have a pumping motor horsepower of at least 50hp.
- Served under an eligible Agricultural and Pumping rate schedule.
- Signed the AP-I contract agreement
What Is Needed
AP-I customers are required to have an interval meter at their locations for billing purposes. AP-I customer load is controlled through SCE’s VHF-FM radio-controlled switch during interruption events only.
Event Notification
AP-I participants may request optional courtesy notifications of interruption events, via automated voice phone messaging, text to cell phone, e-mail, fax and/or pager. However, SCE does not guarantee customer receipt of the notification. SCE is not liable for service provider costs associated with event notifications to customer communication devices.
Note: Use of any of the above additional courtesy services IS NOT a substitute for installing SCE's AP-I Control Device.
