Save money on your summer season electric bills and help conserve energy by joining SCE Commercial Summer Discount Plan. At no charge to you, SCE provides and installs a cycling device on your central air conditioner. In exchange, you receive a credit on your summer season electric bills for permitting SCE to periodically turn off (or "cycle") your air conditioner(s). You decide how much credit you receive by the program and the amount of cycling you select. How It Works
The Summer Discount Plan operates only during the summer season. The Summer Season shall commence at 12:00 a.m. on June 1 and continue until 12:00 a.m. on October 1st of each year. The cycling device is a small gray unit attached to the outside of your central air conditioner(s). Activated by a remote radio signal, it allows SCE to periodically turn off (or "cycle") your air conditioner(s) when needed.
Air conditioner cycling may occur when:
- SCE is directed by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the statewide electrical transmission authority, to interrupt power when electricity reserves have dropped below 7% (referred to as a Stage 1 emergency).
- Emergency situations indicate a storm alert exists and we need to avoid a more widespread power outage.
- SCE needs to test your control device. SCE may conduct up to two tests per cycling season for a maximum of 30 minutes each. During the test, power will be interrupted to the customer's air conditioning compressor.
