New Solar Homes Partnership (NSHP)

Include a solar energy system in your next residential construction project!

If you are a builder or developer, you can receive financial incentives and other support for incorporating high levels of energy efficiency and photovoltaic (PV) solar systems into your development, new custom home or new qualified affordable-housing projects.

When you integrate solar energy systems into new homes as a standard feature for buyers, you demonstrate your commitment to protecting the environment while also providing buyers with an opportunity to wisely manage their energy use. In fact, a new home that qualifies for the New Solar Homes Partnership will be at least 15% more efficient than current energy efficiency standards … that's good news to homebuyers who want to reduce their utility bills and carbon footprint.

The NSHP is part of a comprehensive statewide solar program known as the California Solar Initiative (CSI), and builds on the success of the California Energy Commission's Emerging Renewables Program (ERP), which began providing incentives for renewable energy systems in 1998. Three goals of CSI are:

1) To install 3,000 megawatts (MW) of distributed solar PV capacity in California by the end of 2016.

2) To establish a self-sufficient solar industry in which solar energy systems are a viable mainstream option in 10 years.

3) To place solar energy systems on 50 percent of new homes in 13 years through the NSHP program which seeks to achieve 400 MW of installed solar electric capacity in California by the end of 2016.
