Agricultural & Pumping Interruptible (AP-I) Program

Agricultural & Pumping Interruptible (AP-I) Program

With SCE's Agricultural and Pumping-Interruptible Program (AP-I), you can earn a year-round monthly bill credit when you agree to temporarily interrupt electric service to your equipment during a power emergency. Increased energy demand places a strain on the electrical grid and can cause statewide energy supplies to run low. Your participation in AP-I can help avoid rolling blackouts, save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

How The Program Works

SCE installs a load control device on your participating pumping equipment. You may request to have optional courtesy notifications of interruption events via e-mail or text messaging to your cell phone. When an interruption event occurs, SCE will send out a radio controlled signal to the device, automatically turning off the equipment for the duration of the interruption event. Interruptions are limited to one event per day, four in any calendar week, and 25 times per calendar year. The duration of an event shall not exceed six hours.

What You'll Receive

Customers that participate in the AP-I Program receive:

  • A monthly bill credit of $.00933 per kWh. The credit is available year-round.
  • Free SCE-installed and maintained equipment, plus the one-time program fee and installation cost are waived — a combined savings of over $4,000.

Who Can Participate

The AP-I Program is open to all business customers who meet the following conditions:

  • Provide a suitable and accessible location for equipment installation, maintenance and repair during reasonable business hours.
  • Have demand >50kW.
  • Have pumping motor horsepower >50hp.
  • Served under an eligible Agricultural and Pumping rate schedule.
  • Signed the AP-I contract agreement.

What Is Needed

In order to participate in the AP-I Program, your facility will need the following equipment:

  • Communicating IDR Meter.
  • Most dairy barn customers elect to install their own shunt trip breaker.
