In addition to generating electricity, the Big Creek Project area offers a wide range of activities for outdoor enthusiasts including fishing, hunting, camping, boating, snow skiing, and hiking.

Camping and boating opportunities are available at the six major reservoirs in the Big Creek System. Shaver Lake is a heavily used reservoir for power boating. Huntington Lake is a high-elevation lake that is very popular with both power boaters and sailboats. The very high mountain lakes Florence and Thomas A. Edison are popular with fisherman.

Many of the camping facilities located in the Sierra National Forest are located around five of the six major reservoirs in SCE's Big Creek System. Semi primitive camping facilities are located at Mammoth Pool Reservoir, Lake Thomas A. Edison, and Florence Lake. Developed camping facilities equipped with running water and flush toilets are located at Huntington Lake and Shaver Lake.

SCE built Camp Edison for public use along the western shores of Shaver Lake. Camp Edison provides 252 overnight camping facilities and picnic facilities for 75 families. An additional 100 picnic facilities are located on the north shore of Shaver Lake. The camp is equipped with hot and cold running water, showers, toilet and laundry facilities, disposal stations and electricity. In addition the camp provides boat launching facilities. SCE also provides a camp information center, which includes displays on Native Americans, native fish and wildlife, and timber programs in the Big Creek area.
