Why Is The Project Needed? This project is needed for two reasons. First, this project will serve current and projected demand for electricity in Temecula and Murrieta and nearby areas of unincorporated Riverside County. Second, it will maintain electric system reliability in the area. Temecula, Murrieta, and the surrounding area have undergone rapid development in the past several years. This growth continues today, and has led to a significant increase in the demand for electricity throughout the area. The existing 115 kV line, which serves this area of Riverside County, has reached its capacity to deliver power. An additional 115 kV line is required to provide for the electrical needs of the community. The addition of the second 115 kV circuit will allow SCE to bring more power into the area, and to maintain system reliability.
