Renewables

Edison International’s subsidiary Southern California Edison (SCE) is the nation’s largest purchaser of renewable energy, buying and delivering approximately 13 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) from wind, solar, biomass, geothermal and small hydro suppliers—almost 16 percent of the power it delivered to customers.

The utility has begun construction on the nation’s largest wind transmission project. When completed, the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project will be capable of delivering 4,500 megawatts of electricity from wind farms and other generating companies in Northern Los Angeles and Eastern Kern counties.

SCE’s sister company, Edison Mission Group (EMG) is one of the nation’s largest U.S. owners of wind energy projects, with a generating capacity of more than 1,000 megawatts. EMG is exploring opportunities to build coal gasification plants with carbon sequestration in several U.S. markets.
