Community Based Forestry: Meeting the Needs of People
Southern California Edison's (SCE) forest management team enjoys unusual trust and appreciation from the local community for its timber harvesting practices. Through commitment to community values and development of community programs, SCE fosters an exemplary relationship with Shaver Lake and the surrounding area.
Edison involves community members in land management through volunteerism, education, and service, as well as by generously supporting non-profit organizations. All of these programs are designed solely to benefit and educate the community. The following is a list of a few current programs:

Volunteerism
- Edison works closely with the Shaver Lake Volunteers, providing them with tools, land, and materials for community projects such as:
- Adopt-A-Cove program
- Adopt-A-Trail program
- Trail building
- Sign making
- Edison provides the California Conservation Corps with community service projects.

Education
- SCE, along with the Society of American Foresters hosts the annual "Walk in the Forest," an environmental educational faire informing the public on forestry practices.
- Interpretive programs include Campfire Programs and Nature Walks.
- SCE employees work with individual classes giving them hands-on experience during an environmental week of camping at Camp Edison.
- SCE sponsors educational information booths at local fairs, festivals, and community events.

Community Support
- Edison is providing a site to the Central Sierra Historical Society for their proposed museum
- Edison donates all proceedings from the aluminum recycling program to the Shaver Lank Volunteer Fire Department.
