The 2008 Edison Scholars Program is a scholarship that rewards public and private high school students who show potential for a successful college career and have a financial need. The scholarship is part of Edison's 47-year tradition of investing in the future by making the dream of a college education a reality for deserving students.
Awards
As many as 75 recipients may each receive a total of $10,000, awarded in increments of $2,500 over four years (or until a bachelor's degree is earned, whichever occurs first). During this time, recipients will be reviewed annually for satisfactory academic performance, and continued full-time enrollment* in one of the designated fields of study at one of the eligible colleges or universities, in order to receive the annual $2,500 award. Edison International may discontinue this program and its scholarships at any time.
* Defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year.
Who Is Eligible?
Public and private high school seniors who meet the following requirements:
- Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent
- Have met California State University placement standards for entry-level baccalaureate coursework as defined by either the Early Assessment Program test (EAP); and/or have taken the ACT; or SAT exams
- Plan to major in a full-time* course of study in one of the following disciplines: math, physics, chemistry, engineering (electrical, computer, chemical or mechanical), materials science, computer science/information systems. (Health sciences such as nursing or pre-medicine are not eligible.)
- Plan to a attend a four-year college in or adjacent to Edison's service territory

- Live in or attend a public or private high school in an area served by Southern California Edison

- Be a citizen or a permanent legal resident of the U.S.
* Full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year.
Note: Dependents of Edison International employees or retirees are not eligible for the Public Scholarship Program.
How Can I Apply?
To apply, go to http://www.sms.scholarshipamerica.org/edison to download the online application. Complete the application and mail to Scholarship America along with a current, complete transcript of grades and a copy of test results from either the Early Assessment Program or SAT or ACT.
Applicants will then receive acknowledgment that their application was received. If you do not receive acknowledgement card within three weeks, please contact Scholarship America to verify that the application has been received.
As an applicant, you are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Your application will be evaluated based on the information submitted. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by Scholarship America. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated.
Program Deadline
Applications must be postmarked by April 14, 2008
Award recipients will be announced by June 2008

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America. Scholarship America is a national, nonprofit educational support and student aid service organization that seeks to involve and assist the private sector in expanding educational opportunities and encouraging educational achievement.
