Philanthropy

Edison shows its commitment to the communities in which it serves by supporting the programs and activities of a large number of community-based organizations that serve at-risk and low-income populations and ethnic groups. Our partnerships with faith-based organizations set the standard for California utilities.  In 2007, our Corporate Contributions totaled more than $11 million of shareholder funds. Of this amount, more than 65% was provided to support programs benefitting underserved populations - a key area of our philanthropic effort. The tables below show the amount of contributions provided in this regard.

California Utility Diversity Council

SCE is an active member of the California Utility Diversity Council, an organization wherein the CPUC, businesses and California Utility Companies collaborate to promote and facilitate California's rich diversity by using population demographic data (2000 Census) as a guide to enhance the quality of the utilities’ diversity. Edison’s Vice-President of Equal Opportunity, Mr. Frank Quevedo, serves as a Vice-Chairman of the board, and is the Chairman of the Philanthropy Committee. Mr. Joe Alderete, Manager of Equal Opportunity, serves as a Vice-Chairman of the Procurement Committee. Ms. Gina Galasso Rodriguez, Manager of Equal Opportunity, is a member of the Employment Committee.

Consumer Advisory Panel (CAP)

The Southern California Edison Advisory Panel (CAP) was formed to broaden and sharpen the company's understanding of consumer issues and to examine new and effective ways to strengthen our capacity to serve our customers.  A selected group of respected opinion leaders from diverse backgrounds serve on the panel and regularly meet with SCE's senior executives and directors.

CAP's four specific objectives are: to advise senior management on public policy and consumer issues; raise the level of awareness about the legal, political, and regulatory issues facing our industry; promote widespread public awareness about Edison's positions on issues and initiatives of interest to consumers; and establish a meaningful dialogue with opinion leaders from consumer groups, community-based organizations, environmental groups, educational institutions, economic development organizations, small business, civic groups, and government.

Currently, 22 members serve on the SCE Consumer Advisory Panel, 13 of whom are women and 14 minorities.  CAP is managed by Fernando de Necochea, Special Projects Director.
