The Southern California Smart Grid Research Consortium is a collaborative venture between the leading research universities of Southern California and Southern California Edison (SCE). This collaborative group brings together academia and industry expertise to solve Smart Grid challenges through mutually beneficial basic and applied research opportunities. SCE believes that industry and university collaboration is integral in fostering innovation and developing new methods, ideas, and technologies towards a cleaner, smarter energy future.
The consortium held an inaugural Southern California Smart Grid Research Symposium to discuss opportunities for basic and applied research collaboration. The event was held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the University of California, Irvine Calit2 building. This day-long research symposium featured speakers from the California Energy Commission, Electricité de France, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), University of Southern California, University of California Office of the President, UCSB Institute for Energy Efficiency, Pacific Northwest National Lab, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Quanta Technology, GE Research, Google, Cisco, and IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. The event drew 130 attendees including undergraduate, graduate, PhD students, faculty, and private sector leaders. To learn more about the April 7 symposium, please see the chart below for a list of downloadable presentations, speaker biographies and more.
While the consortium website is under development, you can find information from the inaugural event here at www.sce.com/universitycollaboration. Please continue to check this site for information regarding the next symposium, which is tentatively scheduled for October 6, 2009, at the University of Southern California Davidson Conference Center.
