Project Description
SCE is proposing to construct the Eldorado-Ivanpah Transmission Project to access new solar generation near the California-Nevada border around Primm, Nevada. The project will primarily consist of the following components:
- Construction of a new 220/115 kilovolt Ivanpah Substation.
- Replacement of a portion of an existing SCE 115 kilovolt line with a 35-mile double-circuit 220 kilovolt transmission line, connecting the new Ivanpah Substation to SCE’s Eldorado Substation, near Boulder City, Nevada.
- Upgrades at Eldorado Substation to support the connection of new transmission lines.
- Construction of two separate telecommunications pathways and communication equipment to connect the project to SCE’s existing telecommunications system.
What are the Project Benefits?
- Provides access to renewable energy resources in California and Nevada
- Provides transmission infrastructure for generators of renewable energy to interconnect and deliver renewable resources to the power grid
- Enables Nevada to export clean energy to California
- Supports state and federal renewable energy goals
- Supports the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
- Improves reliability by providing a stronger transmission grid
- Provides jobs during project construction
