Lakeview Substation Project

SCE is proposing a new substation to increase electrical capacity to the Lakeview - Nuevo area of western Riverside County. The Nuevo substation, which currently provides power to the area, has reached its full operating capacity and is unable to keep up with the area’s demand for electricity.

The proposed project will strengthen the area’s electrical network in order to maintain and improve reliability and help meet the forecasted electrical demand. The substation would serve the communities of Lakeview and Nuevo as well as adjacent unincorporated areas.

SCE expects the project to be completed and online by late 2013.

Project description

The Lakeview Substation will include the following components:

Construction of a new 115/12 kilovolt (kV) substation;
Installation of new 115 kV subtransmission lines;
Construction of up to three new underground 12 kV distribution getaways; and
Installation of new fiber optic cable and communications equipment to connect the proposed Lakeview Substation to SCE’s existing telecommunication system.

CPUC is currently reviewing SCE's project application.

Proposed in-service date: Late 2013

Timeline - Anticipated Project Schedule
Fall 2010	File project application with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
Fall 2011	Draft environmental impact report is expected to be released for review.
Fall 2012	CPUC decision expected; if approved, the project’s construction phase will begin.
Fall 2013	Project is expected to be operational.
