SCE is proposing a new substation to increase the capacity of the electrical system and improve electric service reliability to portions of the City of Hanford and northeastern Kings County. SCE’s existing electrical facilities in the area are at or near capacity, and new infrastructure is needed to provide the additional capacity necessary to serve the increased electrical demand of new and existing customers.

The Mascot Substation Project includes construction of a new substation, construction of approximately two miles of new, 66 kilovolt subtransmission lines, and installation of new fiber optic cable and communications equipment to connect the project to SCE’s existing telecommunications system. The proposed substation would include equipment to lower the voltage of electricity to 12 kilovolts.
