Project Approval Process

SCE submitted an application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for approval to construct the proposed transmission line project in May 2008. The CPUC is the state regulatory agency that sets electricity rates and issues permits for the construction of certain electric facilities. SCE’s application included a Proponent’s Environmental Assessment, which evaluated the environmental impacts of the proposed transmission line project and the alternative routes. The CPUC will review the application in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and will either approve the project as filed, approve the project with modifications or deny the project.
