Power Generation - San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station

Community Support

The San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) contributes funds and other resources to non-profit agencies in the South Orange and North San Diego county area.

SONGS employees volunteer than 15,000 hours of their own time to community service every year. In addition, SONGS annually donates office equipment and materials valued at about $50,000. Employees also contribute in excess of $300,000 each year to charitable organizations through direct deductions from their paychecks.

One of SONGS' best-received community outreach services is its Computer Donation Program, through which more than 1,000 computers have been refurbished and given to non-profit organizations since 1995.

This program had dual community benefits.  Students in computer maintenance programs refurbish and upgrade the computers as part of their job training, then the renovated computers are donated to the non-profit organizations.
