Whitewater Tied for First Reach

San Joaquin River
Fresno County, CA

The reach commonly referred to as Tied For First begins below Mammoth Pool Reservoir and ends at Mammoth Pool Powerhouse. The length of the reach is approximately 7 miles. Tied for First is class V and has many large drops which will require scouting and portaging which is difficult in this reach. Based on limited off-river flow observations, the reach is boated by advanced kayakers at flows upto 1,500 cfs. At flows between 1,500 and 2,200 cfs, the reach is boated by expert and elite kayakers only. We have no knowledge of raft runs of this reach.

To get to the put in, from the town of North Fork, take County Road 225 east approximately 5 miles to the junction with Primary Forest Route 81. Turn left on Primary Forest Route 81 going approximately 35 miles to Forest Road 6S25. Turn right on Forest Road 6S25 going approximately 5 miles to Mammoth Pool Dam.
