USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies
The mission of the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies is to encourage responsible and creative decisions in society by providing and objective source of marine and environmental science and fostering an understanding of the natural world among people of all ages. The Wrigley Institute seeks to enhance K-12 science instruction in Edison’s five-county service area by implementing the “Edison Challenge.” Building on Edison International’s commitment to education and the environment, the program fosters quality science instruction, environmental stewardship, college preparation, and family and community involvement.
California State University Foundation
The Early Assessment Program (EAP) was established to provide opportunities for students to measure their readiness for college-level coursework in their junior year of high school and help them improve their skills during their senior year. The program supports professional development activities for high school mathematics teachers to ensure they possess the content knowledge and teaching skills to help students achieve the performance standards.
Chapman University
The Science Teaching and Research Institute at Chapman University (STAR) is a science teacher preparation program designed to develop science teachers’ skills in the use of instructional materials and technology that will better educate K-12 students in all areas of scientific study. The Orange County Department of Education, Orange Unified School District, Santa Ana Unified School District and the California Science Center are among the major STAR program collaborators.
Cal Poly Pomona, California State University Fullerton, and California State University Long Beach
The three universities collaborated to create The New Era Professional Development Institute for K-12 Teachers. The institute is designed to strengthen teachers’ content knowledge and instructional practices in order to improve students’ academic standards and reduce the achievement gaps which currently exist. K-12 teachers who work at schools located in SCE service territory are eligible to enroll in the program.
